'The Healer's Apprentice' is the first book I've read by Melanie Dickerson, but I don't think it will be my last.
Loosely based on 'Sleeping Beauty', 'The Healer's Apprentice' takes the reader on a heartfelt journey that shows how nothing is impossible with God.
Rose Roemer is a poor woodcutter's daughter. Her mother keeps trying to force her to marry, but she doesn't want to marry only for money and status. When she is appointed as the healer's apprentice, she hopes she can prove herself capable - even though she feels uneasy at the sight of blood.
The first patient she had to take care of by herself was Lord Hamlin, the future Duke. He was injured and she had to sew up his leg - no matter how queasy she felt. Soon after, they start to have feelings for each other, but they know that nothing can come of them because Lord Hamlin is betrothed to Lady Salomea, a lady in hiding that he has never met.
I loved 'The Healer's Apprentice'. It was so good and with all of the twists (some I expected) I found myself not wanting to stop reading it - even for a couple minutes!
The characters were gripping and I was so on the edge of my seat during parts of the story. I found Rose's character so interesting. She didn't feel loved by anyone...not even her mother. Lord Hamlin's character was so charming and sweet; Lord Rupert, however, was a character that I found mean and uncaring.
I could go on about more of the characters that I loved, but I won't. I loved this book and hope to read other Melanie Dickerson novels in the future. Highly recommended!
